"Cinderella Man", Russel Crowe and Rene Zellwegger's great depression drama transformed the district in 2004.
Ron Howard’s production crew transformed the Riverside District into 1930’s New York for several weeks of shooting the feature movie, "Cinderella Man". Used as the location for neighbourhood street scenes and interior shots, the District became one of the primary shoots for the story of boxer 'Jim Braddock'. In one of boxing's greatest upsets, Braddock defeated Max Baer in 15 rounds to become heavyweight boxing champion in 1935. Braddock was called "Cinderella Man", because he showed the world coming out of the Great Depression, that an underdog could go the distance and win the day.
